Sasa Papac Biography

Sasa Papac is a twenty eight year old footballer who players for Scottish club Rangers FC. Papac can play in both left back and centre back positions, and has built a reputation for himself as a quality player for both club and country.

Sasa Papac began his senior career playing for NK Široki Brijeg, a Bosnia Herzegovinan team who are successful in their league. Papac signed for the club in 2000, and stayed there for just one year, making fourteen appearances and scoring a single goal. However, in this short reign at the club Papac made a big impression and was awarded with interest from several clubs.

In 2001 Papac moved to Austria, where he played for FC Karten. He spent three years at the club, making a total of ninety five league appearances, scoring three goals, but in 2004 the club was relegated, and because of this Sasa Papac moved to Austria Vienna so that he could continue playing top flight football. Over a two year period at the club, Sasa Papac made seventy six appearances, and netted three goals. It was his brilliant performances at the club that won him the attention of other clubs, with Rangers FC signing him in 2006.

The fee that Rangers paid for Papac was around half a million pounds, with the player making his Rangers debut in September 2006 during a defeat to Scottish club Hibernian. There have been many appearances following that loss, and so far Sasa Papac has played forty three league games for the club, helping them to win the Scottish Cup and Scottish League Cup, both of which came in the 2007-08 season. There has since been some interest in the player from clubs such as French team Saint Etienne, but Papac is likely to stay at Rangers FC for the next season at least.

Sasa Papac has had an eventful international career playing for his home nation Bosnia – Herzegovina, and after making his debut in 2002 he has made twenty seven appearances for his country, getting a name for himself as one of the, if not the best defender in Bosnia Herzegovina at this time. Sasa Papac quit international football in early 2007, saying that ‘there were too many problems with the national association’, but bizarrely has came back in to international football in January 2008, probably due to the introduction of the new manager, Meho Kodro.
