Nacho Novo Biography

Ignacio Javier Gómez Novo, or Nacho Novo as he is better known, is a twenty six year old footballer who primarily plays in attacking positions, which include center forward and on the wing. The Spaniard currently plays in Scotland for Rangers FC, and wears the number ten shirt for the club.

Nacho Novo began his career at youth level, spending one season at Racing Ferrol before moving to Somozas, where he spent two seasons from the 1998-99 through to the end of the 1999-2000 season.

In 2000, the exciting player’s talent was recognized, and he moved to SD Huesca at adult level, where he spent just one season, but made an impressive thirty eight appearances, scoring twenty two goals for the club. It was this impressive record that brought Nacho Novo to the attention of Scottish club Raith Rovers FC. The Spaniard spent one season at the club, making thirty three appearances and scoring eighteen goals: another impressive record.

Nacho Novo’s talent was then being recognized, and the attacker moved to Dundee United FC in 2002. During his two seasons at the club, Nacho Novo made seventy one appearances and scored twenty six goals. Although this record was not as good as those for his previous clubs, the striker still attracted plenty of interest from other clubs in 2004, with clubs including Rangers FC, Celtic FC and Leicester City FC all fighting for his signature.

It was Rangers FC that the player went to, however, signing for a fee of around half a million pounds in July 2004. During his first season at the club, Nacho Novo had an impressive period, scoring twenty five goals for the club. In the 2005-06 season, the striker unluckily broke his metatarsal, with the injury ruling him out of football for several months, and when he returned his record was less than impressive, playing in twenty matches but failing to score in any of them, probably down to the fact he was playing as a winger rather than in attack. From 2006-08, Nacho Novo scored twenty five goals for Rangers FC, six of which came in European competitions. To date, the Spanish player has made one hundred and sixty eight appearances for the Scottish club, helping the club to enjoy success in the Scottish League Cup and the Scottish Cup, both of which came in the 2004-05 season, which was by far his most impressive season at the club.
