Barry Ferguson Biography

Barry Ferguson is a football player that is currently the captain of Scottish team Rangers FC as well as the Scotland international team. The thirty year old Scottish international has been awarded an MBE, which just shows what a remarkable career he has had so far.

Barry Ferguson started his senior career playing for Rangers, which was a reign that started in 1993, although he didn’t make his debut for the first squad until the 1996-97 season, but made an instant impact for the club. His talent was quickly recognised as he helped Rangers FC to win three Scottish Premier League titles in the 1998-99, 1999-2000 and 2002-03 seasons, as well as several Scottish Cups and Scottish League Cups.

In the summer of 2003, however, Barry Ferguson joined Premier League side Blackburn Rovers for seven and a half million pounds. Ferguson was appointed captain of Blackburn, but after thirty six league appearances and three goals at the club, he decided that he wanted to move back to Rangers after effectively saying that English football was not as entertaining as the football played in Scotland.

Barry Ferguson rejoined Rangers FC in the January transfer window in 2005 for a reported fee of four and a half million pounds, and helped the Scottish team to the league title in the 2004-05 season. The player was reappointed captain in the 2005-06 season, but in 2007 was stripped of this right after the manager Paul Le Guen said that the player undermined him. After Le Guen was fired Ferguson started playing regular matches for Rangers again, and in his second spell at Rangers FC he has helped them win the 2004-05 Scottish League title, the 2004-05 and 2007-08 Scottish League Cups, as well as the 2007-08 Scottish Cup. During his foot balling career in Scotland the player has made nearly three hundred appearances, and has scored over forty goals for the team he supported when he was a boy, Rangers FC.

Barry Ferguson has also enjoyed a successful international career to date, too. Ferguson is currently the captain of his national team, Scotland, and has played for them for ten years now. He made his debut in September 1998, and was appointed the captain in 2004, and only injuries have stopped him from making many appearances, but he has still got a reasonable forty three caps, scoring three goals for his national side.
