Allan James McGregor is a twenty six year old who plays as a goal keeper. The Scottish born player currently wears the number one shirt for Rangers FC, as well as playing for the Scotland international team.
Allan McGregor started his senior career at Rangers after a number of injuries at youth level, signing for the full team in 1998. The goal keeper never established himself fully in the Rangers side, and was loaned out for two seasons.
The first loan season was spent at St. Johnstone in the 2004-05 season, where he made twenty appearances and broke the club's record for the most consecutive clean sheets, which was six. The second season that McGregor spent being loaned out was at Dunfermline Athletics FC, where he made twenty six appearances in his first season, and helped the club to the Scottish League Cup final, in which they lost to Celtic FC.
On his return to Rangers FC in the 2006-07 season, Allan McGregor started to earn a few more caps than usual after both of the other Rangers goal keepers were ruled out due to injury. McGregor put together some impressive performances, which earned him a 'Player of the Month' award, as well as a new contract extension that will keep the goal keeper at the club until 2009. Allan McGregor was still left out the side though, as Lionel Letzi was the manager's preferred goal keeper, even though many argued the Scotsman should be the number one goal keeper for the club. However, now that former manager Paul Le Guen has left the club, McGregor is getting more and more appearances, with his current total running at over one hundred caps, and he is currently the first choice goal keeper due to the departure of Roy Carroll. Allan McGregor has helped Rangers FC to win two Scottish Cups and three Scottish League Cups, but the majority of these trophies were won when McGregor has not made any real participation. The number one has, however, been awarded the 'Players' Player of the Year' award at Rangers FC's award ceremony.
Allan McGregor's international career has been fairly uninspiring to date. He is usually selected by Alex McLeish to be in the squad, but has only ever made one appearance, which lasted for forty five minutes and was against Austria. The reason for McGregor's lack of international caps is the Sunderland goal keeper Craig Gordon being the first choice to play for the Scottish international side.
